What happens to your mobile phones?

As the name suggests we take our Environmental responsibilities very seriously. We believe in a sustainable environment and that is why reuse is always our first port of call in the recycling process.

95% of our mobile phones are reused. In most cases they’re refurbished and sold to developing countries where they can play a major part in helping to develop communication networks. The reuse of mobile phones offers a valuable infrastructure in these countries.

If a phone is beyond economic repair then we send the phone off to a recycling plant in the UK where it’s broken down and valuable metals and components are extracted. We strongly oppose electronic waste and as a designated waste handler we take our responsibilities very seriously.

As well as paying out over £50 million to the consumer we’ve also managed to offset over 400,000 tons of carbon and have paid out over £3 million to charities and the education sector. We actively believe in giving back to the local community.

The company name

The name Envirofone is obviously composed of the two main elements of our business: enviro and phone—enviro phone. This became envirophone and then when the company first started it was considered far trendier to spell phone with an 'f' so it stuck and became Envirofone!

Although we've been recycling mobile phones for years the fact that it is possible to do this is still not well known. The benefits to the environment are obvious with reuse being the first step in any recycling process.
